Call for proposals: Orbis Cascade Alliance Summer Meeting
July 13-15, 2021

The first all-virtual Orbis Cascade Alliance Summer Meeting will be July 13 – 15, 2021! The theme of the 2021 Summer Meeting is Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

The Summer Meeting Program Committee seeks program proposals that explore the theme of EDI in the context of Alliance teams and groups, as well as within Alliance member libraries. The committee welcomes proposals from employees at any level, from any member library. We welcome work that is in progress, inspires us to explore areas in which we are not experts, and will help us grow as professionals and libraries. There are many paths for offering information and the Alliance is able to accommodate a multitude of formats.

Please submit your proposal here.
Submissions are due April 28, 2021 by 5 pm.
Questions? Contact Summer Meeting Program Committee chair Josie Ragolia or Elizabeth Duell.

Cambridge University Press
New “Read and Publish” agreement with Cambridge University Press

While the Alliance recently entered a journal subscription agreement with Cambridge University Press for 2020-2022, we negotiated a revised agreement (2021-2023) in light of pandemic-related uncertainties. New terms provide reduced cost increases over the three-year term, as well as the Alliance’s first “Read & Publish” agreement. Under these terms, authors from Alliance member institutions have the option for an unlimited or “uncapped” number of accepted articles to be designated Open Access (OA) at no charge. Once published, OA articles are freely available to anyone, and will not require that one is a member of a subscribing institution to read the article.

Understanding your OCLC resource sharing service: how it works, how it interoperates, and what’s new

OCLC offers several resource sharing solutions, each of which delivers a different experience or serves a specific situation. Whether you’re new to resource sharing or have years of experience, understanding each solution may be confusing. Join the Alliance for a 60-minute webinar on OCLC’s solutions. Get a better understanding of how to choose a solution, how OCLC’s solutions interoperate, what is required to use those services, and which ILL management systems integrate with external providers such as DOCLINE and RapidILL.OCLC’s Director of Resource Sharing, Peter Collins, will also explain how our new smart fulfillment functionality can empower your library to exceed the expectations of your students, faculty, and staff, while saving you time.

Cost-avoidance reports for institutions available in ConsortiaManager

With a full annual cycle of Alliance renewals entered in ConsortiaManager (our consortial e-resource management system), members can now directly access the “cost-avoidance” report feature to calculate their savings from Alliance subscriptions. These reports were formerly manually assembled on request by central staff, but can now be generated by members with the click of a button. Reports include total overall savings on Alliance resources as well as savings per resource in real time. As in the past, publishers must provide a list price in order to calculate savings.
