Generative AI Training Project Group (GAIT)

Charge

The Generative AI Training Project Group (GAIT) will publish a self-led introductory course on generative AI topics relating to library work. Lessons may consist of text, videos, and links to external resources for further reading. By completing the course, Alliance member staff will be able to:

  • Define essential terms in Generative AI.
  • Describe emerging applications of Generative AI in library services.
  • Explain in non-technical terms how tools like ChatGPT generate text from prompts.
  • Recognize common problems and limitations in AI-generated output.
  • Identify ethical, privacy, and intellectual property considerations in applying AI to library work.
  • Apply criteria for assessing Generative AI tools for use in library work or academic research.
  • Construct effective prompts for useful results.
