Transfer request to another copy

Why and how to use Transfer to another copy

Sometimes the requested item is missing, damaged, or otherwise not available for an Orbis loan -- but another COPY is available. Or perhaps the wrong copy was paged, and rather than going to the stacks to exchange one copy for another, you decide to loan the one in hand. (keep in mind, this refers only to copies of the same bibliographic entity; copies of items attached to the same bib. record. Usually -- but not always -- the items have the same call number and the only difference is the copy number in the item record and/or on the label. Of course the barcode number is different.
When you want to respond to the request by sending a different copy that what's listed on the paging slip … it's easy.

1. Transfer the request from the "old" item to the "new" item.

> Holds Management

> Display and Alter a Hold Queue

> Transfer Queue

2. Fix the paging slip to show the correct copy number and barcode (change the call number, too, if necessary).

When NOT to use Transfer to another copy

Do not use this action for

different volumes of a multi-vol. set (but another copy of the same volume is okay)

something similar, but a different bibliographic entity: a different edition -- different year, different publisher, different format -- or an item attached to a different bibliographic record.

Survey

These members use Transfer to another copy. When they do use it, they annotate the paging slip with appropriate changes (copy number, barcode, etc.) rather than printing a new slip.
