Using Millennium vs. text-based catalog

The Summit Borrowing Committee briefly discussed the use of text-based circ vs. Millennium at their 2007 summer meeting. The topic arose due to the trouble-shooting problems with certain transactions: the cause was traced to transactions that were done via text-based mode.

Each new release of the INN-Reach software brings enhancements; however, many of these are not "backward compatible" with the older text-based (or telnet) version. We have found that using text-based for check out and check in causes problems with holds and other Summit processes.

We collected information from almost all members on their use of the text-based and Millennium catalog for various processes. The group encourages members to use Millennium for all available processes whenever possible.
