Summary

Generally, the status displayed in Summit holdings information is controlled by the status code in the item record. However : when the status is <-> and the IType is non-circulating, LOCAL USE ONLY automatically displays (instead of AVAILABLE). Please read explanation below.

During a Summit Borrowing transaction, the item status may display differently in the systems involved in the transaction: the Owning Site, the Borrowing Site and in the patron record, and at central (Summit).

Summit displays a status label, such as AVAILABLE, MISSING, OR WITHDRAWN based on the status code. For a complete list of all status codes and labels, see Item Status Codes.

The status code comes from the local item record. In Summit, item information, including status code, is stored in the 949 (I, or Item) field of the Institution Record attached to the master bib. record. For more information about Institution Fields, See Institution Linking Fields and Holdings Information.

When the status code is hyphen <->

Summit also looks at the IType code. When the status code is <-> and the local IType is mapped to a Summit

• circulating IType (200 or 202), the status code label AVAILABLE displays in the status box on a Detailed Holdings screen.
• non-circulating IType (201), the phrase LOCAL USE ONLY automatically displays in the status box, instead of "AVAILABLE."

Note: While the message is similar, this action is different from the holdings display "LIBRARY USE ONLY" associated with status code "o."

When the status code is not hyphen <->

When the status code is anything other than <->, Summit displays the corresponding label. For example,

-	AVAILABLE
b	AT BINDERY
k	ASK AT DESK
m	MISSING
w	WITHDRAWN
Exception:	When the item is checked out the Due Date displays, and not the Status. Background: Local catalogs can be set up to display both a status and a due date; INNReach central can display only one value.
