Loaner patron records (to use for testing) |
| creating loaner records | list of patron record names | records for you to use | records you created |
Each Alliance institution creates and keeps in their local database patron records that will be used by, or "loaned to", other Alliance institutions. In other words, any institution may test Summit Borrowing in the Summit union catalog acting as a patron at any other member institution. Having these "loaner records" facilitates designated member staff and Alliance staff testing new features, etc. ("Patron test records", on the other hand, are used by the institution owning the patron record.)
Loaner patron records are used by other Alliance libraries to test various Summit Borrowing scenarios, for example:
Exp. date: a date far into the future. The date cannot be "blank" because some activities (e.g. Pickup Anywhere) require checking the expiration date before completing the transaction.
Patron codes: PCode1: doesn't matter. Pcode2: doesn't matter. Pcode3: doesn't matter.
Ptype: use the ptype code for local undergraduate.
Home Lib: doesn't matter
Patron Name: Each record should begin the name with with the word "Loaner" and follow it with the name for the other institution. (See chart below.) It's important that everybody use the same names so that we don't have to look up our name in each different institution: we can always use the same one.
Address: Use the words: "attn: Circulation Supervisor" Telephone: If you like, put in the phone number of your local Summit Borrowing representative, or the Summit liaison for your institution. Univ ID: (for this field, use the shortened version of the institution's name from the chart in the "barcode" field below. If your patron records don't have or use Univ ID #'s, leave it blank.) Use the abbreviation of the institution for whom you are making the record, not your own. Barcode: (for this field, use the shortened version of the insitution's name in the chart below.) Use the abbreviation of the institution for whom you are making the record, not your own.
Prevent over-writing and deletion! Tip: Manually adding a fine, such as $1.00, may prevent record from being automatically deleted in a routine cleanup project to clear out inactive records that don't have outstanding fines.

(when you need to use a Loaner Patron Record to test something)
This table is sorted for the use of libraries testing Summit Borrowing. This table is sorted by "FOR" (Patron records for the use of ...)
(to check your own loaner records you made for other members to use)
This table is sorted by source of the loaner records. Use this table to review your patron records, to be sure that the information available to the Alliance consortium matches the records that you have created in your local database.
