Loan Rule Determiner (Rule selection table) |
Each local (member) system will have seven lines in the local Rule Selection table, for the regular and short loan rules, for CRL, and for testing. When reviewing the information, it helps to recall how the Alliance loan rules work in the local systems:

The Rule Determiner table tries to find a match, either
If it cannot find a match, it will go to the top of the table where all locations, all Ptypes, all Itypes are pointed to a Non Circ loan Rule. So be sure your Non Circ Loan Rule and wildcarded locs and Ptypes are above the Alliance entries in your Rule Selection Table, since the table works from the bottom to the top.
Example, top of table:

Your loan rule determiner, or Rule Selection table, should have 7 lines for Summit Borrowing -- in the following order. If/when you choose to use local rules for Visiting Patron, consult Visiting Patron setup instructions for appropriate changes to other lines in the Rule Det table.
notes
Feb.2005 added PTypes for Special Patrons: 206, 216, 236
December 2005: adding test PTypes to all Institution and Patron loan rule lines for regular and short loans; removing lines used only for testing

Interpreting the information using two lines as example:
line number loc codes Patron type codes Item type codes rule number
005 > ????? 201-205 0,2 99
006 > 9* 0-8,20-23,60 200 100
Line 005: This example takes care of the local books from any local branch or shelving location (wild-carded to ?????) that are requested by any of the eligible Alliance borrowers (Alliance PTypes 201-205,210,211-214,220,231-235,240), and that are coded as eligible for lending via Alliance (Local ITypes 0 and 2), to check out on the Alliance Institution Loan Rule (entered in the local table as Rule #99).
005 fifth entry in local Rule Determiner Table ????? wildcarding to cover all of the local locations 201-205 Alliance PTypes with Summit Borr. privileges 0,2 Local Item Types eligible for Summit Borr.(0=monograph,2=serial 99 Alliance Institution Loan Rule number in the local table
Line 006: This example takes care of any book sent from an Alliance member (wild-carded Alliance institution codes to 9*) and being checked out to local patrons who are eligible for Summit borrowing (Local PTTypes 0-8,20-23,60), borrowing an Alliance item (Summit Item Type 200) using the Alliance Patron Loan rule (rule #100 in the local table).
006 sixth entry in local Rule Determiner Table 9* wildcarding to cover all of the Alliance institutions, e.g. 9coc0,9cwu0,9eos0,9ewu0,9gfu0 0-8,20-23,60 Local PTypes with Summit Borrowing privileges 200 Alliance Item Type code for items that circulate via Summit Borrowing 100 Alliance Patron Loan Rule # in the local table
Local ITypes for Alliance 3-day loan (Short loan): If your site does not loan anything on the “short loan” then use a code value that is not currently defined, or not currently used in any records (usually “255” would be a good choice)
cr0zz (CRL): Everyone enters this line in the table using the PTypes eligible for Alliance Borrowing. The PType mapping table at central controls whether patrons from that institution will be allowed to request from CRL (depending on the institution’s CRL membership status).
(Testing: the two loan rules for testing, and the lines in the Loan Rule Determiner, may be deleted once the permanent loan rules are known to work correctly.)
