 Limit by Title

When the patron chooses to narrow a search by limiting to Words in TITLE, and for Author/Title searches, the program is looking for words from the appropriate subfields in the following fields:

100, 110, 111, 130
240, 245
400, 410, 411, 440
700, 710, 711, 730, 740
800, 810, 811, 830, 840

Fields that are not included (due to concerns about multiple and confusing results): 222, 229, 242, 243, 246, 247

When patrons Limit a search by Words in the TITLE, or do an Author/Title search, the system searches the words stored in particular fields of the record.

We have been investigating inquiries about title-limited or author/title search results, and have discovered that the Orbis profiling is looking at a limited set of fields, rather than all fields that contain title information:

130, 240, 245, 440, 730, 830, 840 subf.t of 400, 410, 411, 800, 810, 811

An example to illustrate the problem is at the bottom of this message.

Unless I hear substantial objections before Feb. 1, I will ask Innovative to expand the set of fields used in title limiting to include a wider range of fields.

If you'd like to comment on which fields to add, or the impact of adding _all_ fields with title information (potential multiple entries in results?), please feel free to reply by e-mail to the group or to me.

note: INNOPAC documentation (Volume 1, Searching) states: "The library specifies to Innovative which fields are to be included in each type of search." Orbis apparently got a default setting; this was not included in our profiling options. You may want to think back to the time of your local INNOPAC set up and review what decision(s) you made in this area.
