Summit Borrowing transactions
Item Status codes and display of holdings and status in catalogs and patron records

INN-Reach software adds a status code, or "flag" to indicate the status of a requested item throughout the course of the Summit Borrowing transaction, from the point of request to the final return and checkin back at the owning site. The software updates codes in all three systems:

  • In Summit, it updates the item field in the institution record.
  • At the Owning site, it updates the item record.
  • At the Borrowing site, it updates the "virtual item record": the field of item information temporarily appended to a patron record.

This table illustrates how status information is displayed in all three systems.

For more information: Holdings display in Summit; Status codes

Notes:

  • Member institutions assign status code labels for each status code. If the code is not authorized in Summit, there is no code and therefore no label; the code itself (such as a letter or number) will display.
  • In local catalogs, each member determines the display. One member may choose to display the Due Date and a label "OFF CAMPUS" while another might display only the Due Date.

[1]  Summit Loan Requested: This status is very brief, usually only a few seconds, until the hold is placed at the owning site.  If Patron site shows Requested Too Long and Summit shows this status, the request is “stuck” Contact III to push it through to Owning Site.

[2] Information is deleted and no longer displays to patron, nothing under "held" or "checked out"
