Call for Nominations to Summit Catalog Committee Working Groups – Oct. 2006

The Summit Catalog Committee Steering Team (SCC-ST) is seeking nominations for participants in four working groups, each devoted to accomplishing an aspect of SCC's 2006-2007 charge. These four working groups are:

Data Harvesting - This group will explore Summit’s potential as a source of data (bibliographic, item, order, circulation, etc.) for the purpose of developing improved services and informing decisions made by member libraries and the consortium. Potential applications include reuse and sharing of metadata, analysis of usability, cooperative collection development, accreditation and use in Summit or local resource discovery interfaces. This group will work on completing the Summit-Google Scholar interface, a project that involves uploading Summit holdings data to Google to provide a Summit link in Google Scholar search results. This group will include representatives from the Collection Development and Management Committee and Summit Borrowing Committee. It will also consult with the Accreditation Document Task Force to determine their needs for Summit Data. It will produce a written report with recommendations for action by March 1st 2007. Those actions will go to SCC and Council for approval.

Short Term Changes to Summit Search Interface - This group will evaluate current Summit usability through surveys, usability testing, etc. and respond by implementing changes to the Summit interface that are possible within the Inn-Reach product and WebPac Pro. This group will make a recommendation on the usage of WebPac Pro and Summit. This group will produce a report with recommendations for action by March 1rst, 2007. It will implement those actions approved by SCC in spring 2007.

Next Generation Summit Seach Interface - This group will explore and evaluate various options for providing "next generation" catalog functionality for Summit. "Next generation" functionality could include such features as relevance based searching, faceted browsing, enriched records, spell-checking, and graphical depictions of collections. It will produce a written report that outlines various next-generation solutions compatible with Summit by March 1st 2007. This report will go to SCC and Council for discussion and action.

Duplicate Reduction - This group will develop technical, policy, and workflow recommendations to prevent and eliminate duplicate bibliographic records and implement those recommendations. This group will produce a brief report with recommendations for action by January 15th, 2007. It will implement those actions approved by SCC in spring 2007.

Those that serve on these working groups should:
