Storing and mapping BCodes in Summit: examples |
Example 1: BCode2
BCode2 (also called Mat Type, or Format) is code <x> at the local site.
As the data is loaded at central (i.e. in Summit) it is mapped, or translated, to code <@>

Example 2: BCode1, BCode3, and 590
BCode1: The local site uses BCode1 (renamed GOV PUB at the local site) to store information about government documents. Code <s> means State/Provincial/Territorial document.
Summit uses BCode1 for Scoping: <s> means Serial, sometimes called Journal or Periodical.
As the update was processed at central, the code was mapped, or translated, to <-> so that it would not be interpreted as a serial for Scoping.
Bcode3 <n> in local catalog, which means suppress (or No Public Display), is shown as Y (for Yes=Suppress) in Summit.
Local note: The field called Local note (MARC tag 590) is not stored in master bib. record at central.
