Orbis Cascade Alliance - Electronic Resource Committee - Steering Team Meeting Notes

Teleconference1 PM – 2 PM

March 18, 2008

Attendees: Sue Anderson, Greg Doyle, Diane Grover, Joanna Haney, Teresa Hazen, Lee Keene, Laurel Kristick, Donna Packer

Notetaker: Donna Packer

1. Review of agenda for the Annual Meeting April 25:

Ø The first agenda item (Welcome/Alliance Updates) will be left at one hour.

Ø It is understood that the “Fairness issues” item may run a bit over time. If so, the agenda for the remainder of the day will be adjusted as needed

Ø There will be no morning break

Ø E-books item: 1 hour, 20 minutes should be sufficient, and this item will end at 2:20

Ø There will be a 10-minute break from 2:20 – 2:30. Steering Team members suggested it might be good to have cookies and perhaps coffee available at the break

Ø The E-journals Renewal item will begin at 2:30

The Steering Team expressed confidence in this agenda as a productive use of attendees time.

2. Volunteers to consider purchasing models: Greg expressed disappointment that no volunteers from the Electronic Resources Committee general membership responded to his call for volunteers to work on this prior to the Annual Meeting. Steering Team members Sue Anderson, Lee Keene and Donna Packer will work with Greg on this. Greg volunteered to put together some information to get the small group discussion started.

3. Lee Keene is the Chair Elect of the Steering Team.

4. Laurel Kristick will be attending a CRL meeting dealing with preservation issues one week before our Annual Meeting. She volunteered to make a brief presentation on what she learns there. The Team thinks this will be a good lead off for the half hour Questions/Issues Forum at the end of the day.

5. Minute takers for the Annual Meeting:

Ø Opening remarks and Alliance update – Lee Keene

Ø Fairness Issues – Teresa Hazen

Ø E-books – Sue Anderson

Ø E-journal package renewals – Donna Packer

Ø Open forum – Joanna Haney

Minutes are due to Joanna Haney no later than May 9th.

6. Oxford Scholarship Offer: there was general discussion of this current offer, with emphasis on confusion about competing versions of the offer made to various consortia and to individual libraries, lack of clarity about what is included, and how to estimate the relative benefits of subscription vs. outright purchase.

Next meeting: April 16, 2008, 1 PM.
