ERC ST 070919Electronic Resources Steering Team conference call
Members attending by phone or videoconference: Anna Creech, Central Washington University Joanna Haney, Lewis & Clark College Teresa Hazen, Mt. Hood Community College Diane Grover, University of Washington Donna Packer, Western Washington University Lee Keene, Whitman College Greg Doyle, Orbis Cascade Alliance Electronic Resources Program Manager
Members not present: Laurel Kristick, Oregon State University
1. Greg: update on ACS renewal
Nothing new to add. Unless pricing is different, we'll go with the model discussed previously for 2008.
Decision: Will be on agenda for Spring meeting to discuss for 2009 and beyond.
2. Greg: agent/Orbis billing survey
Survey responses: 7 - agent, 15 - direct
Alliance staff are not in favor of moving to billing through agents nor estimated annual payments with reconciliations. Greg will look at a pre-pay system where invoices would be deducted against it.
Ebooks purchased through YBP count towards total purchase discounts, so sometimes it really isn't saving more to purchase through Alliance packages.
Decision: Will be on agenda for Spring meeting.
3. Diane: Orbis subscription to Eastview products
Company has a wide range of products that focus on China/Russia/USSR. The sales rep will be talking with member libraries, and GWLA is working on a deal for backfiles. Some Orbis Cascade libraries already have a few products, and there may be a 20% discount for new items purchased. Centralized billing from Orbis would be a plus for them, but potentially a headache for us to sort out who wants what.
4. Joanna: revisit Management of E-journal packages
See the notes from this session at the ER annual meeting in April.
Discussion: Might offer a session on this at the Spring meeting. Another option would be to have some sort of online virtual space (email/blog/forum) to discuss the issues with interested parties. There is a lot of info in the literature and a few good listservs (SERIALST, ERIL-L), but it seems like everyone is figuring it out for themselves. There are so many local variables that it's difficult to make useful generalizations.
Decision: For now, compile a collection of information resources for interested folks, possibly in wiki form or a knowledge management system of some sort. We will include it in the list of possible topics for the Spring meeting. Joanna will put together something based on the notes.
5. Alliance Membership news
Chemeketa Community College is a new member. Natalie Beach is library director and will be their ERC representative.
Warner-Pacific College & Concordia College are talking about getting money together to purchase III and become members. Warner-Pacific has received a grant, and it looks like they may be joining sometime next year.
6. Minutes procedure clarification
A draft of the minutes should go to the Chair, who will review and forward to the members of the Steering Team for final review. When approved, Greg will post to the website.
