Orbis Cascade Alliance Electronic Resources Steering Team

November 5, 2004 - Telephone Conference Call

Members attending by phone:

  • Central Washington University, John Creech
  • Linfield College, Barbara Valentine
  • Oregon Health and Science University, Diane Carroll
  • Reed College, Heather Whipple
  • Southern Oregon University, Emily Miller-Francisco
  • University of Portland, Susan Hinken
  • University of Washington, Tim Jewell

1. First agenda item – Meetings and Communication Patterns

Discussion: There are concerns from some libraries that staff miss

the involvement that had on all Orbis Committees before the merger

and new model. Some expressed concern that public services

librarians aren~Rt part of our ERST Steering Team discussions. ERST

members related that the May 2004 meeting in Portland was successful

because it brought together the Steering Team, the campus ER reps,

and collection development personnel in a single successful venue

that people appreciated.

Action:

  1. Agreed that Tim will query the larger list to see if there were things folks are missing or feeling left out on.
  2. We will try to coordinate a meeting of the ER Steering Team to dovetail with Council Executive Committee meeting on March 11, 2005.

2. ACM Distribution – this topic was deleted from agenda.

3. ACS Web Editions

Discussion: While the Team felt that we may be close to merging both Oregon and Washington contracts, now is not quite the time. To summarize:

  • Oregon and Washington will continue as is for this year and plan to merge next year.
  • For 2006 there needs to be a restructuring so that we can indeed realize the joint cost benefit of going e-only.

4. MathSciNet Distribution

Discussion: Greg asked if it is desirable to merge the 2 groups now and get on an even distribution. Tim wondered – if CLP has to pay more into a pot to help Orbis at the expense of the CLP does this not violate the principle and cost sharing and cost savings?

Action: Agreed that Greg will make another pass at the MathSciNet distribtution. Greg advised that we table this item for now and all agreed.

With there being no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Minutes Prepared: John Creech, 22 November 2004
