Courier vs. Summit Borrowing

The Orbis Cascade Alliance Courier Program transports both ILL and Summit Borrowing materials. Many times ILL and Summit items are in the same shipment (though in different bags).

The Courier Program is an important piece of the Summit Borrowing process, but it is a separate program on its own with different procedures. In fact, over 1/3 of the Courier Program participants do not participate in Summit Borrowing.

This can lead to some confusion, especially when training new staff or students to complete packing and shipping tasks. Because the programs are different, there are different procedures for similar tasks. For example:

report a courier problem Go to the Courier website and complete the Problem Report Form.
report closure - no Courier Service needed Go to the Courier website and complete the Dropsite Closure Report form. Please complete no earlier than 30 days prior; no later than day before.
ask about a missing ILL item Send a message to the courier listserv: courier@lists.uoregon.edu
ask about a missing Summit Borrowing item

Send a message to the summit-circ listserv: summit-circ@lists.uoregon.edu . If you suspect it may have somehow traveled to a non-Summit Borrowing dropsite, you may also want to follow up by sending a message to the Courier list.
