Courier Dropsites

Dropsites are the locations for Orbis Cascade Alliance courier service: the daily, or twice-weekly, pickup and delivery of ILL materials.

In some areas, a Dropsite may be a hub where materials to and from two or more libraries are collected for courier service. These other libraries, called "participating libraries," may use the courier service following established Orbis Cascade Alliance guidelines for appropriate use and procedures.

The Dropsite coordinates courier service for the group of participating libraries and has the business relationship with the courier and with the Orbis Cascade Alliance courier service program. The other libraries participating in the group receive information about the courier service, request information and direct questions to the Dropsite's site contact.

Dropsite contacts keep in touch with participating libraries and provide

  • links to courier service web pages
  • information distributed on the email list
  • official courier labels, or a set of label "masters" for photocopying
  • answers to questions about using the courier system

Here are examples of labels showing

  • a participating library added as a forwarding information below the Dropsite destination ("Attention")
  • a participating library added below the Dropsite name in the FROM area of the label

The Orbis Cascade Alliance oversees additions and changes to libraries participating in the courier service, including approval, updating lists, and making announcements on the email list. The Alliance does not take part in logistical or financial arrangements between the participating libraries and the Dropsite.
