NEWS New courier beginning Oct. 7: Consolidated Routing
New sub-contractor Lanter Delivery Systems has contracted with a new partner: Marquis Messengers/Consolidated Routing.
  • Marquis Messengers has headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and serves libraries in Texas (TexShare), Louisiana and Arizona, administered by Amigos Library Services. Marquis Messengers works with Consolidated Routing in the Pacific Northwest.
  • New drivers The Consolidated Routing drivers all wear uniforms. Permanent Name badges are being distrubuted as well.
Start-up period Our Lanter representative, Sherry Titchenal, was on-site at the Orbis office for several days to assist with the transition and provide information to dropsites. Establishing a new service on just a few days' notice is a big task for the new courier. As routes are adjusted, the schedule will be fine-tuned and updates reflected here as quickly as possible.
Procedures For the forseeable future, use all existing procedures for packaging and labeling.
Manifests: Continue to record information on the daily manifest forms, but you no longer need to give a copy to the courier driver.

  • Mailing labels Each dropsite prints labels using the automated label-maker for all dropsites. November 2002: Everyone will print a new set of labels for all dropsites. The new set includes the new sort codes as shown on the Dropsites web page, and a couple of address changes. Dropsites that serve a group of participating libraries: be sure to provide labels for those libraries, too. Remember, the dropsite goes in "FROM". If you want to provide additional detail, such as the name of the participatin library, add it below the Dropsite name in FROM.

Subject: courier: *** IMPORTANT CHANGE IN COURIER

Due to the need for timely receipt, this message is cross posted to
several lists. Please forward to staff using the Orbis Courier System.
    Sorry for the duplication. --jfh

** Effective immediately, please discontinue shipping via the Orbis
** Courier Service. WPX drivers will continue to serve all dropsites and
** you should continue to receive material but please stop sending as of
    ** Wednesday October 3.

This week, without prior notice, WPX announced a major change in routes,
sorting procedures, personnel, and delivery vehicles to be implemented
over the next several days. This shift may cause a major disruption in
service resulting in changes in pick-up time and significant delays in the
delivery of in-transit material. For this reason we are asking all
dropsites to discontinue shipping for the rest of this week.

I expect to resume normal courier service on Monday but ask that you wait
to hear from Orbis before you begin using the courier system again.

I very much regret this short notice and ask for your patience as we
work this problem out with the appropriate vendors.

Stay tuned ... I'll be in touch with more information as soon as
    possible.
