1. Regional Library Services Center (RLSC) 

An endorsement of current activity reflected RLSC Planning Web page.

2008: Site selection meetings with LCC and OSU.  Alliance and UO staff are updating construction and shelving costs and preparing for the 2009 legislative session.
2007: RLSC is not funded in the Oregon budget for 2007-09. RLSC drew much support but narrowly missed the cutoff for capital construction projects.
2006: End of initiative with UO as fiscal agent and Linfield as host site. RLSC Leadership Group finalizes Alternatives for the future of the RLSC initiative. For more information see the Alliance News for December 2006.
2006 December: Oregon Governor's recommended budget for 2007-09 is released and includes $4.6 million (ca. half of construction funding) in Lottery Bonds for RLSC. See Governor's budget, Capital Budgeting, p. M-3

2. Cooperative Collection Development

An endorsement of the work of the Collection Development & Management Committee (CDMC) as reflected in the Alliance's Collection Development Vision statement

2008: CDMC is helping members implement the Consortial Approval Plan Project and Distributed Print Archive and exploring data mining of Summit for collections information that will aid cooperative collection development.
2007 November: Council approves a Collection Development Vision statement.
2007 July: Collection Development & Management Committee Chair presents the CDMC Report. Council approves the Print Repository MOU in principle and charges CDMC with coordinating the efforts of member institutions that elect to collaborate in the use of YBP Library Services.
2007 April: Collection Development & Management Committee meets with vendors responding to the monographic vendor RFI. 

3. Digital Services Program

2008: Major initiatives include

2007 July: Council discusses the Summit Catalog Committee Report and Digital Services Program Manager (DSPM) Report to Council. Council approves the priorities for the Digital Services Program as listed below.

    • Next generation catalog
    • Data harvesting
    • Administrative computing topics: new content management system, migrate administrative database, calendar system
    • Institutional repositories and digital collections.

4. Northwest Digital Archives (NWDA)

2008: Planning for digital services

Inclusion of NWDA as a program of the Orbis Cascade Alliance.

2007 September-2008 March: NWDA Steering Team considers alternate models for cost distribution of program budget among members. Recommends new model for consideration by Council during FY09 budget process.
2008 February: NWDA submits an application for a Collaborative Planning Grant to the Institute for Museum and Library Services
2007 December+: NWDA’s Digital Program Working Group and Alliance staff continue needs assessment and planning for a digital services program.
2007 July: Northwest Digital Archives becomes a program of the Alliance. NWDA Committee is formed and Steering Team members are appointed. NWDA Program Manager provides a report and presentation to Council.
2007 March: Council approves NWDA program budget as part of the Alliance budget for FY08
2006 December: 21 continuing and 8 new institutions commit to an NWDA Program in FY08. Alliance Executive Committee reviews commitments and the resulting budget and approves formation of the Alliance NWDA Program.

5. ARL/ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication

December 1-3, 2008
Embassy Suites - Downtown Portland

Organize and host an ARL/ACRL Institute on Scholarly Communication.

2008: The Conference Committee has determined the location and dates of the Institute (December 1-3, 2008; Embassy Suites - Downtown Portland) and is finalizing the keynote speaker and budget.

6. Collaborate with Regional and National Organizations

Pursue collaborative activities with other consortia and groups.

2008: Collaborate with ACRL and ARL to host a Scholarly Communication Institute in the Northwest.
2007 November: Council considers and does not approve a motion to expand membership criteria to include state libraries.
2007 February: Executive Committee meets with Washington and Oregon State Librarians in Olympia; Executive Committee meets with the Washington Library and Media Directors' Council (LMDC) in Olympia.
2006 November : Alliance co-sponsors the Northwest Academic Library Directors Symposium
2006 October: Joint TF on a Digital Assets Initiative retired 

7. Building Adequate Organizational Capacity

Creation of a Digital Services Program Manager position (1 FTE) and NWDA Program Manager position (.5 FTE).
